Using the Powtoon Character Builder

Powtoon's Character Builder is a cutting-edge DIY graphic design tool that you can use for creating custom characters. Similar to tools used by graphic designers, the Character Builder enables you to change the appearance of a character according to your tastes and requirements. The character you customize is saved in your personal library, ready for use in any Powtoon that you create.

The characters that you can customize belong to the Cosmo, Rhapsody, Duo and Boho families.
You can find these families in the following looks: Animation Look ,Video Look, Whiteboard Look, and Cartoon Look.

These contemporary characters, ranging from the abstract to the realistic, were designed to provide maximum versatility in style and physical features. In keeping with the contemporary design, the poses available for these characters are realistic and human-like in their movement.

You can create a customized character using either of the following options:
  1. Using the Character Builder Wizard
    You can use the wizard (Basics tab) to first define the character's basic features and then proceed to select a preset. A preset is a professionally-designed character that you can use "as is" or customize according to your preferences.
  1. Editing a Powtoon Character
    You can select a character from Powtoon's editable character families and then customize the outfit and facial features. 

Using the Character Builder wizard

  1. Click Create Your Character from the library on the right side of the Powtoon Studio.

  2. Select the character type.

  3. Use a Preset character, or customizing your own

  4. If you'd like, customize the face and outfit, and accessories.
  1. Finish and save the character you customized.

Editing an editable Powtoon character

  1. Select a character from the Cosmo, Rhapsody, Boho, or Duo family and add it to the stage.
    ► You can also click the Edit icon cb edit icon.png by the character to open it directly in the Character 
         Builder.
  2. Click Edit character to open the Character Builder.
  3. Depending on what you want to customize:
    Use the Outfit tab to change your character's clothes
    Use the Face tab to change your character's facial features
    Use the Accessories tab to add the finishing touches to your character

 

Customizing the outfit

The Outfit tab in the Character Builder is divided into three sections according to the type of apparel: Top, Bottoms, Footwear, and Headwear. Access each section to customize your character's clothes according to your preferences and requirements.
 

Branding your Character

 
If the branding icon cb brand icon.png is displayed, you can upload an image that will be displayed.
 

1. Make sure that there is a branding icon on the item you want to use.

3. Click Upload image and upload the image from your computer.
    ► Image files can be in either JPG, JPEG, or PNG format, with a maximum size of 2 MB.

4. If required, you can fine-tune the image with the following tools:

    ► Use the slider to change the image size.
    ► Drag the image on the grid to slightly adjust the position of the image on
         the shirt.

5. When you are happy with how the branding looks, click Save Logo.
 

 

Finishing and saving your character

  1. After you've finished customizing the character, click Finish.

  2. Give your character a name, and Click Save to complete the customization process.

The character is added to My Characters, your personal character library, ready for use.
When needed, you can edit characters in this library by clicking the Edit icon cb edit icon.png and then making changes in the Character Builder (as described above).


Deleting a custom character

  1. In the My Characters library, locate the character that you want to delete.
  2. Hover over the three dots by the character and then click the trash icon.
  3. Click Yes, Remove to complete the deletion.

Notes

  1. The poses that can be applied to characters from the Cosmo/Rhapsody/Boho/Duo families are unique to these characters and are not interchangeable with poses from other character families.
  2. You can add any character from the Cosmo/Rhapsody/Boho/Duo families directly to your Powtoon. Customizing a character's appearance is an added benefit but not a condition for using the character.
