While working on your Powtoon, you may need to arrange objects in a specific order on the slide. The ordering is important when two or more objects overlap because it will determine which object is in front and which is in back.
Objects can be arranged on a slide using the following methods:
- Moving an object directly to the front or back.
- Moving an object forward or backwards by one-layer increments.
In the example below, there are two objects overlapping: a woman and a chair.
In the example below, there are four objects overlapping: a woman, chair, table, and coffee cup.
Note:
Bringing an object directly to the front
-
Add the relevant objects to the slide. In the example below, a chair and a woman have been added.
Note that both objects are positioned on the timeline as a group, as the chair and the woman appear together in the scene.
- Right-click the object that you want positioned in the front (in the example, the woman) and then click Bring to front.
The objects will now be arranged as in the example below.
Sending an object directly to the back
-
Add the relevant objects to the slide. In the example below, a chair and a woman have been added.
Note that both objects are positioned on the timeline as a group, as the chair and the woman appear together in the scene.
- Right-click the object that you want positioned in the back (in the example, the chair) and then click Send to back.
The objects will now be arranged as in the example below.
Bringing an object forward by layers
-
Add the relevant objects to the slide. In the example below, a chair, a woman, table, and coffee cup have been added.
Note that all four objects are positioned on the timeline as a group, as they need to appear together in the scene.
- Right-click the object that you want to bring forward (in the example, the woman) and then click Bring forward.
The woman has been brought forward by one layer and the objects will now be arranged as in the example below.
Sending an object backwards by layers
-
Add the relevant objects to the slide. In the example below, a chair, a woman, table, and coffee cup have been added.
Note that all four objects are positioned on the timeline as a group, as they need to appear together in the scene.
- Right-click the object that you want to send backwards (in the example, the table that is hiding part of the coffee cup) and then click Send backwards.
The table has been sent backwards by one layer and no longer covers the coffee cup.
Arranging objects from the timeline
In some cases, it may be easier to arrange the objects using their corresponding tags on the timeline. This method is especially useful when you have many objects on the stage and not all of them are visible (overlapping objects).
In the example below, there are five objects grouped together as they need to appear simultaneously on the slide. Although they appear together, some objects are layered on top of (or behind) others.
